How RealEstateTube can help you avoid housemate horror stories

Share

CEO Steve Makris caught up with 2UE’s Trevor Long to talk about shocking housemates and how RealEstateTube can help.

From the housemates that eat your food and steal your stuff to the ones that throw midweek parties and are always late paying rent. Most people have a housemate horror story to share (Man who died with a falafel in his hand, anyone?), but it doesn’t have to be that way.

use technology to avoid horrible housemates

“If people have got a room to let, maybe this is the way to get it out there. And if you’re looking for somewhere to stay this is another way to get it happening.” – Trevor Long, 2UE

Finding the right housemate made easy

Using RealEstateTube’s platform to get to know potential housemates can help you avoid problems. Add in some savvy social media searching and a professional background check via Veda’s tenancycheck.com.au and finding the perfect housemate just got a whole lot easier! Say goodbye to property damage, late payers and people who just aren’t a good fit. A quick search and a proper background check only set you back a few minutes and less than a couple of pizzas, but can give you the peace of mind you need.

Why video is king

Video is king these days. But it’s not just search engines love of video content that makes it so successful. Video can make a big impact quickly, and when it comes to finding a housemate or share house, it’s hard to hide the truth on video. Fake profile pics or details and cleverly angled property photography are problems that can all be avoided by using video. Not entirely sure about a potential housemate? Now you can easily share their video with your friends and get their opinion too.

How it all started

The concept for RealEstateTube came about when Steve was working with overseas investors interested in buying Australian property. As an estate agent, he was frustrated by the obvious limitations of the situation. Then he found himself shooting short video tours on his phone and emailing them to potential buyers. This worked so well that Steve knew he had to build a platform for it.

Where to next

Although RealEstateTube is currently a platform focused on housesharing, the future will see it expand to include other areas. Steve explains, “We’d like to incorporate people who want to sell their own homes and businesses.” Just imagine how much you could save in agent fees by selling your own home. Or how much time you’ll save by not viewing properties that look great in photos, but are a real letdown in person.
